Follow CDC, State, and Local Public Health Guidelines. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), COVID-19 is mainly spread through the air. The risk of getting the virus by touching a contaminated surface is thought to be low.
Clean high touch Surfaces with Soap and Water. Normal routine cleaning with soap and water lowers the risk of spreading COVID-19 by removing germs and dirt from surfaces. In most situations, cleaning is enough to reduce risk, but disinfecting may also be needed.
Consider the type of surface and how often the surface is touched. Generally, the more people who touch a surface, the higher the risk. Prioritize cleaning high-touch surfaces at least once a day. If the space is a high traffic area, you may choose to clean more frequently or disinfect in addition to cleaning.
Examples of high-touch surfaces include pens, counters, shopping carts, tables, doorknobs, light switches, handles, stair rails, elevator buttons, desks, keyboards, phones, toilets, faucets, and sinks.
Use EPA-Registered Disinfectants further lower the risk of spreading COVID-19 by using products to kill germs. Use disinfectants on high touch surfaces when you know or suspect someone around you is sick with COVID-19.
