Hey Brunswick OH, Do you have water in your basement?

Water found in your basement can be a cause for alarm, but you’re not alone, it’s an issue that many homeowners experience. A pool of water on the floor is usually a pretty clear sign there is a problem and here a few reasons why.
*Sump Pump Failures
A sump pump is a well with a pump that is installed in your basement floor. Water drains into the sump and the pump forces water into storm sewers or drains once water level hits a certain amount in the well.
If your sump pump is working properly, it is an effective way to keep your basement dry. However, a power failure, poor sump pump maintenance, or clogged discharge lines can allow water in the basement.
*Floor Drains
Open floor drains are usually near utility or laundry sinks and allow wastewater to drain away from your home.
If an open floor drain becomes clogged, the wastewater from your washer or sink will not be able to drain away, causing water to flood into your basement.
*Sewer Lines
Sewer pipes can let water into your basement in several different ways. Whether your sewer line goes through your foundation floor or wall, the seal may weaken over time and allow water in.
A blockage in your main sewer line is the most likely cause of a sewage backup. However, heavy rains can also cause a problem.
*Plumbing Leaks
Leaky plumbing is another common cause of water in the basement. Many pipes run through the basement, carrying water throughout your house.
A frozen and burst water pipe is also possible during extremely cold weather.
