Cooking With Caution in Wadsworth OH
2/14/2020 (Permalink)
During these cold winter days, we love to have our comfort foods. We cook for our families and friends when we come together for meals and special times. But according to the National Fire Protection Association, cooking fires are the number one cause of home fires and home injuries.
By following a few safety tips in the kitchen, you can prevent these types of fires:
*If you are feeling sleepy or have consumed alcohol don’t use the stove or stovetop.
*You should always stay in the kitchen while you are frying, boiling, grilling, or broiling food. If you need to leave the kitchen for even a short period of time, turn off the stove.
*If you are simmering, baking, or roasting food, check it regularly, stay home while food is cooking, and use a timer.
*Have a “kid-free zone” of at least 3 feet around the stove and areas where hot food or drink is prepared or carried.
The facts are that the leading cause of fires in the kitchen is unattended cooking and most cooking fires in the home involve the kitchen stove.
If you do experience a fire in your home, call SERVPRO of Medina County at 330-722-4343.
